From disappointment to insight

A while ago, I applied for a position as a freelance instructor at a renowned educational institution. The interview went great. I felt at ease, we had a productive conversation, and I had a really good feeling about it. Recently, however, I received their decision: I wasn’t selected.

They valued me as a person and enjoyed the conversation just as much as I did, but they felt I didn’t have enough “experience” as a teacher. Was it a disappointment? Yes, absolutely. I had been looking forward to taking on this role, to sharing my knowledge and inspiring others. But this news also made me reflect on my self-worth and potential for growth.

You are more than the sum of your experiences

It made me realize that the number of flight hours I’ve logged as an instructor doesn’t define me. Just as the color of my eyes, my age, my gender, or my sexual identity don’t. I am more than just the sum of my experience and qualifications. My qualities as a person and as a professional go far beyond a number on my resume. I can grow. I can learn. I can add value in my own way. This insight helps me maintain my self-confidence and keep pursuing my goals. Because true growth lies in development and perseverance, not just in experience.

The freedom to follow your own path

Many people measure themselves against external criteria such as degrees, work experience, and recommendations. But what if we relied more on our intuition and our intrinsic qualities? What if we recognized that learning and development are a process, with its ups and downs? That it’s not about how much you’ve already accomplished, but about how much potential you have to grow? Through this experience, I’ve learned that I can follow my own path and that success doesn’t depend on other people’s expectations. I’ll continue to develop myself in a way that suits me, without letting traditional expectations hold me back.

Keep believing in yourself

So, what now? I’m moving forward with confidence. I’ll keep doing what I’m good at, keep growing, and keep expanding my practice. I know that the right people will find me—not because I’ve logged a certain number of hours, but because my energy and approach resonate with those who can benefit from them. No doubt, at some point in the future, I’ll find myself standing in front of a group as an instructor again. Or perhaps my path will unfold in a way I can’t yet foresee. Either way: I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. And the same goes for you. Get in touch with me, and let’s explore together how you can tap into your potential for growth. 💛
